Media Outlets Misreport Actor Siddharth Criticised Women For Not Celebrating RCB's WPL Win

The Rush: Several media outlets including The Indian Express, Times of India, Hindustan Times, ABP News, and Times Now ran reports claiming that actor Siddharth criticised women for not celebrating the Royal Challengers Bangalore's recent win in the Women's Premier League.

The Fact: The statement was made by Siddharth's namesake account on X and is unrelated to the actor.

The Process:

  • Siddharth does not have an account on X; the viral post was made by an account with a name similar to his.

  • We scanned the account @DearthofSid that posted the original comment criticising the lack of women during the celebrations for RCB.

The Clarifications:

  • Actor Siddharth took to his Instagram handle (@worldofsiddharth) and clarified that he did not write that post and that he is not on X (formerly Twitter).

  • The X account that shared the viral post (@DearthofSid) uploaded a new header picture with the text: 'X user clarifies that he is not actor Siddharth'.

Why Anti-Spam App Doosra That Fought For Users' Privacy Shut Down

🔖 A solution for spam calls: Doosra helped Indians share a disposable secondary mobile number at public places like supermarkets, restaurants or wherever people are uncomfortable in sharing their number to stop spam. It blocks all calls by default, and only allows whitelisted numbers using the settings in their app giving people control.

But it’s shutting down: The service has been disrupted over the last few months and the firm announced they are unsure when the services will be available again with the Department of Telecom stopping their licence. What led to this? Find out in Srinivas Kodali’s story.
