Communal Clashes in Haryana’s Nuh: How The Violence Unfolded   

📍 Nuh, Haryana: Mohammad Haroon, a 35-year-old shop owner, looked despondent and helpless. On 1 August, while sitting with his family, he received a distressing call from a friend in Gurgaon. The friend informed him that his shop, along with two other Muslim-owned shops in sector 66, Gurgaon, had been burnt down by a group of Hindu men. 

BOOM’s Kaisar Andrabi spoke to locals in the area to understand what happened on 31 July, leading to the communal violence in which six people lost their lives, and dozens were injured.

🔖 “I will not come into the cabin, I want to confront you out in the open. We have not received incentives for over 12 months,” Payal Singh can be seen airing her grievances openly. 

A former employee of the EdTech startup, Singh received a meager ₹2,000 as part of her final settlement, thus prompting the argument. 

But her case is not unique. Decode’s Titha Ghosh spoke to eleven Byju’s employees to get a first-hand account of their experiences, bringing to light a culture of abuse and unpaid incentives.

🚫 Fake News You Almost Fell For

🔍 Old photos showing cars burning and rioting were shared online as recent visuals from the violence that took place in Haryana's Nuh district. BOOM’s 🔗Mohammad Salman found that the photos are from other unrelated instances of violence in north India and not from the recent clashes in Nuh. 

🔍 A video showing a man wearing a BJP scarf throwing stones at a gathering surfaced with a false claim that it shows moments which led to the violent clashes in Haryana's Gurugram. 🔗Sujith & Srijit Das found out. 

🔍 BOOM’s 🔗Shrey Banerjeefound that an old video showing a massive explosion involving two vehicles in Moscow went viral with the false claim that it shows two electric vehicles colliding and causing a huge blast because of the batteries present in them.
