Young Medics Jittery After Kolkata Doc’s Rape-Murder; Say Laws Reactionary
🔖 After working for 24 hours straight, Dr Sarika Patkar* crashed in the men’s ward at one of Mumbai’s premier government medical colleges. The 24-year-old intern, fresh MBBS graduate felt quite safe, but her parents in Jaipur were quite fidgety. They kept checking Patkar WhatsApp status all night long. And as soon as dawn broke, Patkar's mother called to check on her.
“She never does that, but my mother has been quite worried for me after reading the news about the 2nd year PG student who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College,” Patkar told BOOM’s Ritika Jain.
Advocate Sneha Kalita said the laws as they are, only step after an incident takes place. It's reactionary, not precautionary, she said.

Khushboo Khan, oldest helpline responder at Tech Sakhi, and her fellow responders tackle a wide range of online harassment cases—from deepfakes, impersonations to revenge porn.
Launched in 2022 by Point of View, Tech Sakhi is a grassroots, multilingual digital helpline dedicated to addressing digital safety concerns for women and marginalised genders.
Each responder at Tech Sakhi handles 10-15 calls daily on an average, with slightly fewer (about 5-6) for newer languages on the helpline like Tamil.
Chhaya recalled a barrage of calls on the helpline from victims of this scam during the lockdown. Morphed photos would be sent to the victim’s own contact list.

Supriya Sule's WhatsApp Hacked: Experts Explain Modus Operandi And Safeguards
🔖 In light of MP Supriya Sule's WhatsApp being hacked, an FIR has been registered at Yavat Police station, and the case has been transferred to the Pune Rural Cyber Cell.
Sule’s WhatsApp was compromised after clicking a malicious link sent via WhatsApp. Her account was restored after intervention from Pune Police and Meta.
Speaking to BOOM’s Hera Rizwan, Sule advised people "to be very careful as these attacks can be from known contacts", as in her case.
Cybersecurity experts explained that while WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption prevents direct hacking, scammers use methods like screen-sharing apps, OTP sharing, and keyloggers to compromise accounts.
